After an impressive warm up, sophomore Riley Davis threw the shot 37’ 9” to win the 1A State Title at Western Oregon University.
“All year I had a goal of being a state champ,” says sophomore Riley Davis. “All throughout the track season I was sitting second and once I got to state the adrenaline kicked in and I just felt good,” Davis says. “My first throw wasn’t very good, but my second one went a little farther. My third throw was my farthest at 37’ 9” and that felt so good because all the little things came together finally.”
Senior Kathryn Burns placed 4th in the shot put with a throw of 33’ 8 ¾.” Burns also placed 7th in the discus with a throw of 99’ 3.”
On her last throw, sophomore Shelie Doman placed 5th in the discus with a throw of 102’ 6.”
After being drawn as a wildcard, sophomore Laurel Witzel placed 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles with a new personal record of 17.02 seconds.
Making it to state in three events, freshman Kelsie Siegner placed 7th in the 400, 5th in the 300 meter hurdles, and 9th in the triple jump.
The mustang girls fought hard and scored a whopping 25 points with only 5 athletes. The team finished the season staying strong and proud through the rain and lightning.
