Students will read selections in different genres and apply a variety of reading strategies, particularly interactive reading strategies, appropriate for reading selections.  They will analyze literary elements and use a variety of strategies to read unfamiliar words and to build vocabulary.  Additionally, students will develop and refine an abiility to write narrative, expository, and persuasive texts, using a variety of forms, including journals, essays, poems, research reports, and research papers to express ideas appropriate to audience and purpose.
